What is Pop Art?
Pop Art was the art of popular culture. It was the visual art movement that characterized a sense of optimism during the post-war consumer boom of the 1950s and 1960s. 

• Pop Art was a brash, young and fun art movement of the 1960s

• Pop Art coincided with the globalization of Pop Music and youth culture.

• Pop Art included different styles of painting and sculpture but all had a common interest in mass-media, mass-production, and mass-culture.

• Although Pop Art started in Britain, it is essentially an American movement.

• Pop art was strongly influenced by the ideas of the Dada movement.

• Pop Art in America was a reaction against Abstract Expressionism.

• The art of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg is seen as a bridge between Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art.

• The artist who personifies Pop Art more than any other is Andy Warhol.

• Warhol's paintings of Marilyn Monroe are the most famous icons of Pop Art.

• Roy Lichtenstein developed an instantly recognizable style of Pop Art inspired by the American comic strip.

• Claes Oldenburg was the greatest sculptor of the Pop Art movement, creating many large scale public works.

First Week- Research a Pop Art Artist 

Artist Research Questions Worksheet

Answer the following questions about your assigned artist. Be sure to cite your references. Suggested Web sites: pbs.org, sfmoma.org, moma.org, loc.gov, metmuseum.org, artic.edu Name of Artist: ___________

1. Provide the dates and places of the artist's birth and death. 

2. How/where did she/he train? Did she/he receive formal art instruction? 

3. Discuss some of the people and/or events that influenced their art. 

4. What art movement(s) are they considered to be a part of?

5. Describe the artist's style. 

6. Describe any recurring subjects, symbols, images, and/or themes in the artist's work. 

7. Tell 2 or 3 interesting stories or facts about your artist. 

8. If your artist is no longer alive, what kind of legacy did they leave behind? If your artist is still alive, what are they currently working on?

Second week-   Selfie PopArt style Project

Use Google slide to create a selfie PopArt style

Steps:

1. Use photo booth to create 4 different selfie pictures

2. Upload pictures to Google Slides using Google Slides tools to create PopArt style.

You must:

• * Recolor the selfies
• * use speech bubbles with text( interesting font and readable size) 
• * use format options( transparent/ brightness/ contrast) to change the background to pop art style
